Recently the Mount Semeru in Indonesia erupted multiple times and sent thick columns of ash up to 1,100 metres above its summit.

Location:
It is located in
East Java, Indonesia.
It is one
of the most active volcanoes
in Indonesia.
It is
positioned within a subduction zone,
where the Indo-Australian plate subducts beneath the Eurasia plate.
It is the highest peak on Java Island and sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”.
It lies at the southern end of a volcanic massif extending north to the Tengger caldera.
Summit topography is complicated by the shifting of craters from NW to SE.
Semeru, also known as Mahameru
, has erupted numerous times in the past.
